Types of Frosting
-
Buttercream
By far the most popular icing, buttercream has a soft, creamy
texture and rich, buttery taste which suits virtually any type of
cake. Flavorings such as almond, lemon and rum can also be added.
-
White Chocolate Fondant
A truly delicious adaptation of the classic fondant icing which is
rolled out and used to cover the cake to a satin-like finish. It lends
a very elegant look to cakes with a delicate white chocolate candy
flavor.
-
Specialty frostings are available upon
request.
Number of Servings
Wedding cake servings are usually 1 inch x 2 inches in size and about 4
inches tall. The amount of cake that you will need should be based upon
the number of people in attendance, the time of day of the reception,
and the amount of other food being served. Remember that although you do
use the number of servings in the top tier for pricing purposes, it is
generally saved for the first anniversary and should not be included in
planning the number of servings to be eaten.
Cost of the Cake
The cost of a wedding cake is based on the price per serving multiplied
by the total number of servings. A number of factors go into
establishing the price per serving, including the type of cake, the type
of frosting, and the amount of decorating time required. Please keep in
mind that each cake is a one of a kind creation, and decorated
completely by hand.
Delivery and Set-up
There is a delivery fee required for all wedding cakes. Delivering
your cake includes getting your wedding cake to the reception site,
setting it up properly and attractively, and the lace, netting and
ribbons used to set your cake off to its best advantage.
Gum Paste Flowers
Although gum paste (also referred to as sugar paste) flowers have been a
European tradition for many years, they are just now gaining popularity
here in the States. These flowers are made from an edible sugar paste
which is rolled paper thin, cut and textured by hand, then colored and
assembled into delicate bouquets and placed on your cake. They provide
an exquisite and delicate look; yet can be removed from the cake prior
to serving and preserved for years to come. Since I design and color
each of these flowers by hand, these unique creations are an additional
cost.
Fresh Flowers
Fresh flowers make a lovely addition to your wedding cake and are
frequently used to decorate the cake. Please consult with your florist
to ensure that the flowers to be used on the cake are organically grown,
non-toxic, and free from pesticides. Purchasing the flowers is the
responsibility of the bride; however, I will be happy to coordinate with
your florist about placing them on the cake.
Cake Top Ornaments
Many brides like placing a commercially purchased cake top ornament on
the top of their wedding cake. The cost of this ornament is not included
in the price of the cake, although I will be happy to recommend
locations where they can be purchased. I do require that the ornament be
available to me at least seven days prior to the wedding to allow for
any last minute alterations that may be necessary.
Cake Stands
There are a number of cake stands and options available for you. These
cake stands are quite expensive and remain the property of Linda Rodin's
Cake Gallery. A deposit for the cake stand is required at the time of booking and will
be refunded to you provided the stand is returned clean and undamaged.
